Session Notes: A couple of years ago we started playing around with swapping out 2520/2510/990-type 5-pin opamps in an API 3124 mic preamp. When the ADK Custom Shop AP-1 entered production with not only swappable opamps capabilities but also swappable transformers we thought this would be a good time to do some testing and post some sound files. The sound files in this Session 9 are 16-bit WAV files. All WAV files are named systematically as source.opamp.trans.wav
The purpose of this session is to listen to the different relative qualities of various opamps and transformer combinations in an ADK Custom Shop AP-1 mic preamp. The signal path is minimal and there was no dynamic processing no EQ, compression or limiting of any kind used on these tracks.
Session 9 is also a sound file companion for an upcoming review of the ADK AP-1 mic preamp for Studio Reviews.
A note of caution: Be very careful with the volume especially on the bass tracks on your monitors! You are essentially getting the same signal from these sound clips as you would from plugging a bass directly into your system. Please start at a low volume, and then raise as desired and as is safe for your monitoring system. We assume no responsibility for any damage these files may cause to your sound system or to your relationship with your neighbors.
Talk about it in the Session 9 topic and the ADK AP-1 topic at Studio Forums.
Enjoy! - DR - "Dot"
