Session Notes: Session 3 is all bass DI. The bass you'll hear is a simple Blues progression. We asked Brian McKenzie of Lazy I Studios to do the honors. For this session we used a Lakland Skyline Series Bob Glaub P&J bass with Lakland Flatwounds. The volume and tone pot knobs on the bass were completely open for the entire session. In order to insure a consistent signal level, we employed a Countryman Type 85 FET Direct Box.

The purpose of this session is to listen to the different qualities each preamp brings out in the bass. The signal path is minimal and there was no dynamic processing — no EQ, compression or limiting — of any kind used on these tracks.

A note of caution! These MP3 files are of UNCOMPRESSED BASS! [ YES, WE'RE SCREAMING ] Be very careful with the volume on your monitors! You are essentially getting the same signal from these sound clips as you would from plugging a bass straight into your system. Please start at a low volume, and then raise as desired and as is safe for your monitoring system. You also might chose to run these files through your favorite compressor. We assume no responsibility for any damage these files may cause to your sound system or to your relationship with your neighbors.

Enjoy - DR
