The choices and placement were made fairly fast with only a few minor adjustments in mic positioning after some initial listening.

Tracks 1-3: The three kicks all had AKG D-112's mounted inside them - as the resonant heads have no holes.
Track 4: For the snare we used the small AKG clip-on mic that Terry had with him.
Track 5: The Gefell UM70 "center" mic was placed on the stand under the ORTF pair of DPA 4011's. We'd had been playing with a few mics in this position for bootcamp, and the Gefell had done a nice job.
Track 6: Ronan wanted a spot mic near the top of the kit to give the high-toms some presence. We used a DPA Compact Cardioid.
Tracks 7 & 8: Drums OH's: Ronan's a nut for Shure KSM32's - and they do a good job, picking up things evenly. The 32's were placed above the kit.
Tracks 9 & 10: This was an ORTF pair of DPA 4011's. Dan favors using this configuration out in front of kits in situations where natural sound and imagery is desired.
Tracks 11 & 12 [ Toms HI and Toms LO ] This was for the set of chromatic toms that Terry has on the left side of the kit. We quickly agreed that a pair of omnis would cover all of them. We chose a pair of DPA 4006's.
Track 13: This was Ronan's Mesa Boogie cab that he miked with a 57.
Track 14: This was Ronan's other cab. Not sure of make. He found it in the trash. Miked with a Coles 4038.
Track 15: Lo toms: These were to get a little extra presence from the floor toms. Ronan stuck an MD421 under them.
Track 16: Compressed Room mic: In the A/B tests we'd listened to the day before we felt the Pearl CC22 was a little too scooped in the mids for general duties, but thought it would be just right for a room mic.
Track 17: A Coles 4040 that was initially placed near the xylophone was moved behind the kit off-axis with the figure-8 patterns facing to the sides.
